The #EverydayNile project was co-founded by Professor Emanuele Fantini and documentary photographer Roger Anis, launching its first cycle in 2021 with support from the IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Programme.
In the first cycle, we mentored and trained 9 visual journalists from Nile Basin countries, helping them document narrative on water in their regions. Their work was showcased in two regional exhibitions in Cairo and Uganda, as well as three community exhibitions in Kenya, Burundi, and Uganda, and an exhibition at the UN Water Week in New York.
The second cycle trained 10 visual journalists from all 10 Nile Basin countries to produce 10 water stories, culminating in three regional exhibitions in Uganda, Ethiopia, and Egypt.
At its core, EverydayNile seeks to expand our understanding of water and the challenges facing the Nile Basin. It also leverages visual storytelling as a means of knowledge-sharing, networking, and fostering dialogue across communities.
#EverydayNile, since its start, the initiative has collaborated with various partners and donors. Our main partners include InfoNile and IHE Delft, and in 2024, we welcomed new partners: the Nile Basin Media Network, MiCT (Media in Cooperation and Transition), FOTEA Foundation (organizers of the Uganda Press Photo Award and the East African Photography Award), and the Nile Basin Initiative, with support from GIZ and German Cooperation.
